How does Shutdown and Expiration life cycle settings work when set on an instance?

Shutdown

When provisioning an instance, and on the Automation step if we configure ‘Shutdown days’, for example as 5 days.

The owner will be notified 1 day before it’s scheduled to shutdown. The owner will get an email notification, and a message appears on the instance details page ( Provisioning > Instances > Select instance ), informing the user about how much time left before shutdown is triggered.

The schedule shutdown can be removed by navigating to ( Actions > Remove Shutdown ).

Expiration

When provisioning an instance, and on the Automation step if we configure Expiration days, for example as 10 days.

The owner will be notified 1 day before it’s scheduled to expire. The owner will get an email notification, and a message appears on the instance details page ( Provisioning > Instances > Select instance ), informing the user about how much time left before it expires.

The expiration can be removed by navigating to ( Actions > Remove Expiration )

Shutdown / Expiration Policies

The shutdown and expiration can also be configured via policies, where the user gets more granular control and also gives you the option to configure when the notification is sent.

Please note that if a policy is set it will only apply to new instances and not existing ones.
