For vSphere, we have disk persistent, and independent mode. Typically we want persistent for root and application disks, but we independent disk for large data disk, or log disk.
The mode is very important for vSphere snapshot. Only persistent disks are included in snapshot by design. If we have TB disk of log or data, we should not include them into snapshot.
